Working at Suomenlinna
Many of the residents work at Suomenlinna, but some of the many people working at Suomenlinna live on the mainland. The Governing Body of Suomenlinna is the biggest employer in the fortress, closely followed by the Naval Academy and the Ehrensvärd Society.

Artists’ studios
According to the development plan for Suomenlinna, studios for artists in various artistic fields have been renovated on the island. For instance, there are 13 actively used studios in the Hårleman bastion. A knife shop and artistic foundry are located on Tallinmäki Hill, and a summer shop operated by Viaporin taidekäsityöläiset ry [the Sveaborg Handicrafts Artisans Association] is located in the nearby wooden stables (B34).
Coast Guard Station and customs
The Suomenlinna Coast Guard Station, part of the Gulf of Finland Coast Guard, is in operation at Suomenlinna. The Customs has a boat base and museum in the fortress. The harbour pilot station is located on the Harmaja lighthouse island.
Expertise in many fields
The basic services at Suomenlinna, such as the school, nursery, and church, offer jobs too. Experts on various fields are employed by the tourism industry and the museums. The Maa art school, located on Susisaari island, is a private education institution offering artist training.
Interesting people and works of art are presented in the Suomenlinna newsletter.
