Entries from the architecture contest for Länsi-Mustasaari island displayed at Jetty Barracks
New residential buildings are in the works for Länsi-Mustasaari, one of the islands of the sea fortress Suomenlinna. An architecture contest was organised to find a character, scope and implementation technique suited for the protected, historical milieu of the World Heritage Site of Suomenlinna. The competition was organised from 27 May to 3 October 2016. The most important evaluation criterion was the overall architecture in relation to the sea fortress Suomenlinna. Suggestions that clearly represent today’s architecture and create their own historical layer at the site while being somehow reminiscent of the history of the location were considered the most commendable.
Five of the best and awarded entries will be displayed in the lobby of the Jetty Barracks near the ferry pier of Suomenlinna for the duration of March.
