Regulations and permissions
Suomenlinna is a national monument and a UNESCO World Heritage Site. Approximately 650,000 tourists visit the area every year. Suomenlinna is also a district of Helsinki and home to 850 inhabitants. The land and water area of Suomenlinna belong to the state and are administered by the Governing Body of Suomenlinna, operating under the Ministry of Education.
Suomenlinna is protected by laws and decrees. According to the World Heritage contract, the state is obliged to maintain Suomenlinna as part of our world heritage. The Suomenlinna regulations include provisions from the Antiquities Act, the Public Order Act, and the Nature Conservation Decree, as well as orders which the Governing Body of Suomenlinna, as the landowner in charge of managing the area, has been entitled and obliged to issue.
The Governing Body of Suomenlinna has published a separate set of instructions for event organisers, instructions for photography and filming and use permit for outdoor areas.
