Guided tours

The maritime fortress of Suomenlinna, which is over 260 years old, comes to life on a guided walking tour. The secrets of the bastion walls are revealed and the old stories from the Swedish and Russian periods depict the busy life of the fortress during peace and war.

The tour explains why the grand fortress was originally built and takes visitors to the main attractions of the island: the Great Courtyard and the dry dock – once the largest of its kind in the world.

During the summer months, guided tours in Finnish, Swedish, English and Russian are organised daily in Suomenlinna. In the winter, tours in English and Russian are organised at weekends.

Guided tours and themed tours are available in more than 15 languages upon request throughout the year. The daily tours and booked walking tours in Suomenlinna are organised by the Ehrensvärd Society, founded in 1921.

Cronstedt

Did you know?

Carl Olof Cronstedt (1756–1820) has in turn been called a hero and a villain.

The Helsinki-born vice admiral and a representative of the Swedish Riksdag, C. O. Cronstedt is known as the hero of the Second Battle of Svensksund and the commander of Viapori, who gave the fortress – and Finland – to the Russians in the Finnish war in 1808.

The guided walking tour will reveal more about the unlucky Cronstedt, among other things!
