Café Bar Valimo
The café and restaurant Valimo, open during summer, is located in a grass-thatched ammunition foundry, built in the 1870s. Valimo is a popular lunch and evening spot for both yachtsmen and residents of Suomenlinna.
The menu includes salmon soup as well as various pasta and wok dishes. For the thirsty, Café Bar Valimo offers beers, ciders, refreshments and coffee.
The restaurant also offers conference facilities for 16 to 45 people. Valimo can also be booked for events.
The sunny terrace offers a sea view onto Varvilahti bay – the perfect place to observe life on the pier and on board the boats while enjoying a refreshing drink.
How to get there
The waterbus stops at the Visitor Centre pier during summer. The restaurant is about 300 metres from the pier. The Helsinki City Transport ferry operates to the main pier throughout the year, and from there the restaurant is about 800 metres away.
When arriving in your own boat, the channel to the harbour runs between Länsi Mustasaari and Susisaari and is shown with lateral marks. For more landing information, please visit the Valimo website.
Accessibility
The route from the main pier to Valimo is accessible with a wheelchair all the way to the gate. After the dock gate, there is a small hill on the route. There are some differences in ground level at the entrance, so those in a wheelchair will require assistance from a carer/companion. Mobility aids equipped with wheels can be used inside the restaurant. The clearance width of the narrowest doorway is 75 cm.
There are two cabinet rooms in Valimo. The cabinet rooms are located on a higher level than the other facilities, and the route is equipped with ramps. Some tables on the terrace are accessible with a wheelchair.
There is a spacious, relatively accessible toilet in Valimo.
