Icecellar

The Icecellar in Suomenlinna is a place for local art and culture persons to exhibit their creative works. Both the art shop and the culture café support these activities. Icecellar is also an excellent, established venue for various and maybe even spontaneous events.

Café Icecellar

The culture café Café Icecellar in the same building is open as normal and caters the evening events. The café is open throughout the year.

Accessibility and how to get there

The Icecellar is located on Iso Mustasaari, near the Military Museum Manege. The waterbus stops at the Visitor Centre pier during the summer, and the Icecellar is about 200 metres from there. The Helsinki City Transport ferry operates to the main pier throughout the year, and from there the Icecellar is about 500 metres away.

All of the venue is on one floor. The route from the main pier to the Icecellar follows the wheelchair route almost all the way.

Icecellar

Officers' icebox

Icecellar was built in 1898 as storage space for the officer’s barracks. An icebox of sorts, it was kept cool with blocks of ice sawed off the fresh water pans on the island.

World Design Capital Helsinki 2012

The Icecellar is part of WDC Helsinki 2012 program.
