Current information to visitors (Covid-19)

Updated 7.1.2021

The Metropolitan Area coronavirus coordination group has compiled an updated set of recommendations and restrictions to fight the coronavirus. These restrictions will also have an impact on services and activities in Suomenlinna. Some services are closed for the period between 30 November and 31 January.

The fortress itself remains open. There is sufficiently space at the fortress for everybody to enjoy Suomenlinna outdoors and to visit restaurants and cafés by practicing appropriate distancing.

The fortress is open

Suomenlinna is open as usual. Outdoor areas are large enough for everybody to explore safely. You can take a walk, visit the main sights and enjoy crisp sea air. Restaurants and cafés are also at your disposal.

The ferry operates with safety in mind

The fortress is accessible with the public HSL ferry. The ferry runs between the Market Square and Suomenlinna daily from early morning to late at night. On business days, you can also reach the fortress with the HSL service ferry from Katajanokka. More information on how to get to the fortress and the timetables here.

On the ferries, safety is a priority, and the number of passengers has been reduced until further notice to combat the pandemic. On board, you can also find space on deck in the crisp sea air. The journey takes around 15 minutes.

Opening hours

The restaurants and cafés at the fortress continue providing their services. Also HAA Gallery is open. You can check the opening hours in our calendar here.

Museums are closed between 30 November and 31 January. The Ehrensvärd Society has also cancelled all guided walking tours for the three-week period.

Conference and banquet facilities

Suomenlinna conference and banquet facilities being state-owned premises, they will be closed until 31 January. However, the sales negotiators will be available as usual to negotiate bookings of events and meetings for after 31 January. You can contact them by e-mail at tilavuokra(at)

Services provided responsibly

All Suomenlinna pays special attention to safety and all service providers are committed to ensuring safe customer service. The premises are cleaned more frequently, the number of visitors is reduced and plexiglass is installed at the counters to ensure the safety of the personnel. All services offer antiseptic hand rub.

Help us act responsibly
