Philomela’s Finland100 concerts
A series of concerts by choir Philomela kicks off the Finland 100 celebrations on Suomenlinna in February Philomela will give three concerts that dramatise the years 1917–1918 in Finland.
The concerts use human voice, musical instruments, light and darkness to capture the strong but still often silenced emotions evoked by the series of events. The audience is invited into a three-dimensional soundscape, to experience the struggles of an emerging country, starting with the general strike in 1917 and ending with a concert that commemorates the victims of the Finnish Civil War.
The first and second concert will be held on Saturday 25 February 2017. The first concert—at Myllysali Hall at 4 p.m.—will feature two guest appearances: Teho Majamäki, musician and winner of the Kalevala Society award, and Tapani Rinne, founder of Rinneradio and jazz musician. The second
concert—at Tenaille von Fersen on Saturday 25 February 2017 at 5 p.m.—presents the Suden aika piece by Philomela.
Ticket information will be available at a later date.
