Pop up exhibition: Precarious Domesticity
In the summer of 2018 an exhibition in the Gunpowder Magazine of Susisaari will exhibit new Finnish furniture design. Breaking conventions the designer Leo Lindroos studies the possibility of combining function with a work of art in the context of furniture.
Comfortable and stable. Two words that bring together nearly 100 years of modern furniture design. But is that all? PRECARIOUS DOMESTICITY is a series of three pieces of furniture that studies abnormal, unintuitive construction systems. What is enough to create a balance while the whole retains an optical impression of imbalance?
The exhibition of three utility sculptures, paintings and a video installation is set in the 18th century barrel vaulted space of Gunpowder Magazine. Furniture on display have been produced in co-operation with a blacksmith Seppo Muukka, who works in the drydock of Suomenlinna.
Time: Exhibition is open on June 13 – 14 from 9 a.m. to 9 p.m.
Location: Gunpowder Magazine, building B29, see location on the map.
