Sini and Jenna Kähönen: CARNIVORE

In February HAA Gallery presents Finnish contemporary art in two exhibitions: in hall 1 Sini and Jenna Kähönen – CARNIVORE; in hall 2 Matilda Palmu – Fantastical Creatures in the Sexotic Garden.

Sini ja Jenna Kähönen: CARNIVORE

Carnivore is Sini and Jenna Kähönen’s joint exhibition and painting series. The exhibited watercolours study the dichotomy between humanity and flesh. Whilst there has throughout history been an attempt to define humans as non-animalistic, mystical and rational creatures, the series suggests the opposite: we are flesh and flesh alone. Both artists explore questions of corporality and its beauty, and return to the artisanal tradition of their female relatives by incorporating thread and lace in their work.

Jenna Kähönen favours working aquarelles in layers whilst Sini Kähönen employs watercolours to create impressions of lightness and temporality. Sini Kähönen dives beneath the skin whilst Jenna Kähönen focuses on surface elements.
