Tanabata Star Festival at the Japanese Tea Room
The Tanabata Star Festival will be celebrated with a tea gathering (chakai) on Sunday, 7 July 2019
According to an originally Chinese legend, the two lovers Weaver Orihime and Shepherd Hikoboshi (Altair and Vega), separated by the Milky Way, meet only once a year. Their annual meeting in the summer sky marks the Tanabata festival, celebrated in Japan on the 7th day of July or August, depending on the region. During the festival, wishes are written down on small pieces of paper, which are then hung onto bamboo branches. After the festival, the wishes may be burnt or set afloat in rivers or streams.
To celebrate the Star Festival at the Japanese Tea Room Tokuyûan, a tea gathering will be organised on Sunday, 7 July 2019. The gathering is open to anyone interested in the art of tea or Japanese culture. No previous experience in tea culture is necessary.
The tea gathering will start at 2 pm (a ferry at 1:30 pm from the Market Square). We will serve a sweet and thin tea (usucha). The price of the tea gathering is 15 euros (10 e for members/students).
For registration and more information, please contact Jenny (jenny@urasenke.fi). Please register by Thursday, 4 July.
