Ferry schedules and duration of the trip

The service ferry departs from Katajanokka and transports goods and passengers on weekdays throughout the year. The service ferry has space for several vehicles.

The ferry runs approximately once per hour. The journey to Suomenlinna takes approximately 15 minutes. Please see detailed schedules here (pdf). Ferry schedules can be found also in Suomenlinna Online Guide or HSL Journey Planner.

Departure points

The ferry departs from Katajanokanranta 10 in Katajanokka. Katajanokka dock is located right at the end of the cape Katajanokka. In Suomenlinna, the ferry arrives and departs from the service ferry pier of Iso Mustasaari island.

To reduce emissions, we recommend that you use public transport to get to Katajanokka.

Ferry tickets

The service ferry is part of Helsinki public transport. If you have a valid HSL ticket (AB, ABC or ABCD) you can use it in the ferry. Suomenlinna is in the HSL ticket zone A.

If you don’t have a valid ticket you can buy it from the ticket machine on the departure pier or via the HSL app. An AB day ticket is the best option and it allows unlimited travel for 24 hours not only in the ferry but also on trams, buses, commuter trains and metro in A and B zones.

Tickets need to be purchased before boarding. Please note, that tickets are not sold on board. See the HSL website for ticket prices. The crossing is free with a Helsinki Card.

Safety

Hand sanitizer is available, cleaning has been increased and keeping safety distances is reminded with stickers and posters. On the service ferry, you have the possibility of open air travel on deck.
